Easy Old Fashioned Goulash Recipe

by mobi_22

Old Fashioned Goulash is a complete one-pot dinner that only takes 45 minutes to prepare! This traditional American comfort food combines ground beef and noodles in a delicious tomato-based stew. You may remember eating this classic stew as a child. A quick everyday meal is also suitable for children.

Goulash is an excellent alternative for those who want to stretch their food budget. When mixed with spaghetti and a heavily seasoned tomato sauce, one pound of ground beef makes many servings. It has become a favorite staple of many people, not only because of its taste but also because of its simplicity and price.

HOW TO MAKE OLD-FASHIONED GOULASH

Preheat oven to 350°F.

A large pot of water should be brought to a boil. Cook the macaroni for 3 minutes less time than indicated on the package. Release it.

Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add ground meat and onion to the pan. Cook for 6-7 minutes or until the steak is browned. Remove excess fat.

Cook for 1 minute or until the garlic is aromatic.

In a bowl, mix the Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and chopped tomatoes. Stir until well combined.

Add Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Add cooked macaroni and cheddar cheese. If the pan is oven safe, bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and the cheese has melted. Alternatively, bake in a casserole.

Steamed rice, salad from the green garden, cheese and bacon scones, Hungarian potato pancakes, freshly baked crusty bread, and Hungarian cucumber salad can be served with a round goulash.

WHAT TOMATO SAUCE GOES BEST WITH GOULASH?

I tell people all the time to work with what they have. Crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, tomato soup, or V8 + tomato paste all work well in this recipe. A mixture of them would also be effective.

HOW CAN YOU MAKE THIS DISH MORE APPEALING?

Try replacing some or all of the ground beef with ground turkey, which is lower in fat. You can also use lean ground beef to reduce the fat in this dish.

Consider protein or plant-based pasta. This will lower the carbs while increasing the protein and/or vitamins.
